Organic Orchard & Berry Management for Whole Farm Health (Seats Filled)

Meet Linda Hoffman, orchardist at Old Frog Pond Farm, and Laura Davis, Organic Certification Assistance Coordinator and Soil Health Advisor with NOFA/Mass, for a hands-on exploration of organic management practices for orchards and small-scale fruit production. 

Join us to discuss the orchard’s perennial intercropping system and its impact on soil health and pest management: we’ll learn about Old Frog Pond’s foliar spraying methods and approach to tree nutrition. Tour the orchard and berry patch, and see Old Frog Pond’s pruning system for managing fire blight and other pathogens. We’ll also have a hands-on demonstration of whip-and-tongue grafting, and examples of topworked trees. 

This is a unique opportunity to explore one of the few Certified Organic orchards in the state of Massachusetts and get a first-hand look at the how-tos of organic orchard management.

We will meet in the studio and begin with ‘finding our seat’ whether on a cushion, meditation bench or chair. Then learn about posture, breath, how to hold our awareness, and what to do as thoughts arise. After this introduction, there will be a guided meditation that will move participants into silence followed by an opportunity for questions.

There is no charge for this offering, but there is a donation basket at the door. We encourage participants to help support our practice here at Old Frog Pond Farm.

Finding your Seat - Yoga for Meditators

Michele Seisan Laura, is offering a series of three Monday night sessions in October in the studio to assist meditators find comfort and ease in their seat whether on a cushion on the floor or in a chair.

Together we’ll search and find a choice of “seats” that embody steadiness and ease; supportive positions for sitting for longer periods. Using whatever props you need and concepts from ergonomics, postural alignment, subtle anatomy, deep relaxation, yogic body practices, breath practices, and more, we’ll find the middle way to our equally grounded and buoyant place of stillness. 

3 Mondays: October 2, 16 & 30

An Afternoon of Robert Frost with Actor and Storyteller Stephen Collins

POSTPONED: An afternoon of Robert Frost is a unique, interactive performance of this often misunderstood poet.

As part of the performance, there will be an open discussion of a selection from the following poems:

“A Tuft of Flowers”
“Mending Wall”
“Birches”
“After Apple Picking”
“Acquainted with the Night”
“Desert Places”

Stephen is hoping that some people will come having read these poems, and will be willing to contribute to the discussion.

The performance closes with a dramatic reading of Frost’s masterful use of blank verse in the hauntingly memorable “The Death of the Hired Man.”

Qigong and Tai Chi Classes

Qigong and Tai Chi are meditative mind-body practices that use slow graceful movements to promote relaxation, reduce stress, improve circulation and enhance overall health and well-being. These easy to learn practices can be adapted for sitting, standing, walking and lying down. During these classes we will explore a variety of techniques to harmonize heart, mind and body, and to clear, reinvigorate, and balance our Qi channels (meridians).  Join us at the farm and learn a a series of Qigong practices and beginner Tai Chi movements that you can integrate into your everyday life. 

No experience is necessary, loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes recommended. We will be practicing outdoors, weather permitting (or using indoor studio space in case of rain).

The instructor is Aisling O’Shea, a certified Integral Qigong Teacher and Tai Chi EasyTM Practice Leader. Her goal is to help others develop a practice that promotes relaxation, improves energy and strengthens the mind and body’s capacity for stress management and self-healing. Aisling has been practicing Tai Chi and Qigong for twenty years and teaching since 2016. Connecting with nature is an important aspect of these ancient Chinese healthcare practices. Nature and healing are also at the core of Aisling’s environmental work also where she focuses on restoration and preservation of healthy, self-sustaining aquatic ecosystems.

Qigong and Tai Chi Classes

Qigong and Tai Chi are meditative mind-body practices that use slow graceful movements to promote relaxation, reduce stress, improve circulation and enhance overall health and well-being. These easy to learn practices can be adapted for sitting, standing, walking and lying down. During these classes we will explore a variety of techniques to harmonize heart, mind and body, and to clear, reinvigorate, and balance our Qi channels (meridians).  Join us at the farm and learn a a series of Qigong practices and beginner Tai Chi movements that you can integrate into your everyday life. 

No experience is necessary, loose comfortable clothes and flat shoes recommended. We will be practicing outdoors, weather permitting (or using indoor studio space in case of rain).

Aisling O’SHea

The instructor is Aisling O’Shea, a certified Integral Qigong Teacher and Tai Chi EasyTM Practice Leader. Her goal is to help others develop a practice that promotes relaxation, improves energy and strengthens the mind and body’s capacity for stress management and self-healing. Aisling has been practicing Tai Chi and Qigong for twenty years and teaching since 2016. Connecting with nature is an important aspect of these ancient Chinese healthcare practices. Nature and healing are also at the core of Aisling’s environmental work also where she focuses on restoration and preservation of healthy, self-sustaining aquatic ecosystems.

The community fire is facilitated by Chris Griffin, a firekeeper trained through the Sacred Fire. To learn more click here.

We will make offerings at 6:30. Please arrive before offerings start.

Bring headlamps and anything else you need to make yourself comfortable. The fire circle is a short walk from the house.

A monetary donation to help meet ongoing expenses is appreciated. Suggested $5 (or more).

Storytelling Returns!
Envy is the theme for June 25th at 3 pm!

We’ve again partnered with Fugitive Productions to bring you Sunday afternoons of storytelling — Upcoming are June 25, July 23, and August 27. Moving and transformative stories will be told by Moth and Massmouth Story Slam Winners and Champions, theater professionals, comedians, authors, and folks from our very own community.

Purchase Tickets HERE $15 ahead/ $20 at the door.

Please note that this is an outdoor event and should the weather not cooperate, the event will be held indoors at Villageworks in West Acton.
